Parallel Hybrid vs. Series Hybrid

There are two different types of hybrid vehicles: parallel and series hybrids. Hybrid vehicles use an electric motor and a gasoline engine to run the vehicle. Parallel Hybrids: The electric motor and gas engine are connected to the transmission. By blending both power sources together, the vehicle functions. Most hybrid vehicles today are parallel hybrids. 

Series Hybrids: These hybrid vehicles only have the electric motor connected to the transmission. The electric motor is the primary source of power and the gasoline engine serves as a backup generator for the electric motor. 

Hybrid Vehicles vs Electric Vehicles

Now that you know how hybrid vehicles work, it’s time to discuss how they differ from electric vehicles. As we talked about above, hybrid vehicles utilize both electricity and gasoline to function.
