2012 GMC Terrain Uses Single Camera for Crash Avoidance

You've probably heard about the award-winning safety features and advanced technology that come standard in the new GMC Terrain. For the 2012 model year, GMC has stepped it up a notch - the 2012 GMC Terrain will be the first vehicle of its kind to implement a single-camera Crash Avoidance System.

The $295 system uses one camera for both collision warning and lane departure functions. And, instead of hardware (i.e. multiple cameras and lasers common in luxury collision-detection systems), it relies on software. This allows GMC to keep the cost of the system well below many of its competitors.

The software in the single-camera system analyzes video frames to determine trajectory and time to collision if driver adjustments aren't made. GMC indicates that at night, "The system looks for pairs of lights moving together to help spot other vehicles, and vehicle speed, accelerator and brake application are factored in to help the system figure out what the driver's intent is."1

The 2012 GMC Terrain is now available at Bayer Motor Company, 218 E. Grand Comanche, TX. To experience the new single-crash avoidance system, please stop by or give us a call at (800) 843-5230.
